“I am not afraid that the people called Methodists should ever cease to exist either in Europe or America. But I am afraid lest they should only exist as a dead sect, having the form of religion without the power. And this undoubtedly will be the case unless they hold fast both the doctrine, spirit, and discipline with which they first set out.”
John Wesley 1786
On this site you will find a growing source of articles, and other sources of information and learning on the Methodist movement. These will be broadly grouped under the categories 'doctrine''spirit' and 'discipline'.
The content of the articles and links is the responsibility of the author. Inclusion of material on this site does not mean that Aldersgate2038 agrees with the views expressed.
If you are an author we are looking for material, articles up to 10,000 words. These should be related to the Methodist movement and Wesleyan heritage and broadly fall into one or more of the categories 'doctrine' 'discipline' and 'spirit'. Articles should be academically sound and you must be open to a process of peer review. Articles should be aimed at a busy minister, Local Preacher or church leader. Aldersgate2038 will pay for your articles if you are willing to assign copyright or will host your article otherwise. Should a paid for article ever be removed from the site copyright will revert to the author.
If you have an academic thesis which you wish to make available on the web we will be happy to host such material at our discretion if it is related to tee nature of this site.
All material will be published in .pdf format
At this time when the British Methodist Church is in conversations with the Church of England we are particularly interested in material relating to the views of Methodists and others on
- episcopacy
- apostolic succession
- the nature of ordained and lay ministries
- what John Wesley was doing in making Thomas Coke a 'superintendent'
- John Wesley's understanding of the matters above
and related issues.
